Your Business Needs To Join Tell what you sell
With the upcoming election season, there will soon be signs everywhere you look.
The purpose of these political signs planted here, there and everywhere is to sell a candidate or concept. . . their image in our minds before pulling the lever or punch Chad.
For the next several months we will see signs on the highway bloom almost all Byway. . . and far too many yards.
If there is a good sign, two must be better. Is one the most signs win?
Not!
So why firms can not do the same thing? They can not because the same politicians who pollute our landscape at election time are the very ones responsible sign codes that govern and restrict the signs for businesses. . . and everyone!
The result is predictable: only politicians can be signs (much!). Companies may also have signs, but darn few and bought on leave.
Do not get me wrong. Sign codes and restrictions are desirable and necessary. . . but the codes for the same signal should be at stake for all entities: businesses and political candidates and causes?
When was the last time you voted for one person or a question that had the most signs scattered about the countryside?
Also, when do thnk was the last time a politician paid for a campaign poster for a permit? There is now a sales listen, we still have not tapped!
Back to the signage for businesses. The purpose of signs of activity is to educate increase public your company.
Your sign transmits What you do or sell to prospects, customers and passersby. What do we really in most commercial brands?
Almost without exception, commercial signs are beautifully landscaped, color coordinated, well-proportioned. . . and utterly predictable.
Net effect? Many shop signs appear to be invisible! Not perceptible. Often not readable.
Many companies to take four primary errors on their signs:
1. They spend under this critical facet of their business.
The size, cost and look of your exterior sign should be part of your original marketing plan and not come afterwards. Your sign is one place you should not save. It is often an investment of time and must be right from the get-go.
2. They try to cram too much information in space available.
Signs must be easily read from vehicles which run on more often too quickly. Like the print ads, try never to CRAM 5 lbs. potatoes in a bag of books.
3. They try to blend into their environment.
Mixing in works in certain situations, but often you want your sign to stand out.
This does not mean that your display must be loud or as Las Vegas. Stay away cursive writing and / or exotic lettering. Except that I thank you for your notes.
People need to be able to see and read your sign from a distance and at speeds above the posted limit.
4. They erect their sign too high (especially signs in town.
Most of the signs must be the height of the windshield so they can be read as persons by Whiz.
Tall are fine signs for motorways, but rarely work in most other places.
Register your company can help you with design, readability and sign code restrictions. Erecting signs effective business NOT a do-it-yourself project. Big mistake.
Here's the skinny on the type code sign business issues and restrictions:
1. Virtually all local governments to regulate the construction, materials, components or electric operation (size, number and location) signs of business.
Rely on your provider sign to guide you in maze. These rules not only change often, but sometimes are prone to subjective interpretation.
Remember that the code officer sign of rules application.
2. Business signs are considered commercial speech and as a protection against interference Government illegal under the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
For the Fourteenth Amendment, local governments are held to a fair and equal treatment to all applicants under the sign permitting process (politicians currently excluded!)
3. There are federal laws protecting the sign or a company owner of the business when someone tries to copy the design, artwork, or wording of the sign of a company without authorization.
I remember one case where a Denver motel West Colfax built a brand Neon dear: Bugs Bunny Motel complete with a replica of the hare itself.
This motel was forced to undertake a costly re-do eliminate the appearance of the trademark and name Bugs Bunny logo.
4. Finally, if a company owns or leases their sign, it is a business asset and receives the same tax treatment as any other physical assets of the company.
Do your homework on your sign.
Like many other things, you only have one chance to make a first impression.
