The Madden Curse – Why Brett Favre may be the first to break it!

To all the uninformed out there, football season is a curse lurking over his shoulder. Many athletes refuse to acknowledge it, but it exists. The evidence is too overwhelming. Of course, we speak Madden's curse.

What is the so-called "Madden Curse", you might ask? Well the Madden curse is what happens any athlete is displayed on the cover of the latest edition of the popular video John Madden Football game series. What happens? They simply get hurt! They could be injured for 1 game, or the example of the former quarterback of the Atlanta Falcons Michael Vick, they lose their athletes Damn Near to all year! Michael Vick was the athlete featured on Madden '04 and was lost to the Falcons in Atlanta on a knee injury during their Saison 04-05! Regardless of the severity of the injury or the length of the lesion, it seems that as the athlete is injured, Madden's curse is satisfied! A little known fact is that not only affect the Madden curse records athlete on the cover, it also affects team the athlete is launched!

Case, the cover of Madden 2006 featured quarterback Donovan McNabb of the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles were cost of their Super Bowl run last year against the Patriots in New England, (we'll get into that later) and expectations were high among Eagle fans (myself included), for the team to return to the Super Bowl, this time to win! Unfortunately, this was not the case. I knew it would be a bad year because of the Madden curse. And when I mentioned this to those who are less informed that said, "You're crazy! We're going all the way to the Super Bowl!". That years' Eagle team barely made the playoffs playoffs and we lost Donovan McNabb for much of the season for various injuries. Now that the New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was susposed to be on the cover of Madden this year too. And at the last minute for some reason, respectfully declined. Think about it. The Patriots New England had Monick of "Dynasty" put on them after their victory against the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl because he was their third Super Bowl victory in four seasons. Thus, "Dynasty" was a precise title for the team. But during all this "Dynasty" Run, not a single member of the Patriots Super Bowl win was on the cover of every Madden '02 TO '06. Is not it strange for you? A quarter of the Super Bowl would not be featured on the cover of Madden! A good number of athletes from the NFL, to be featured on the cover Madden is one of the greatest honors that can happen to you as an NFL player! Why not win a Super Bowl quarterback featured on the cover of most popular video games in the football world? Hmmmmm ……

It also said that in the same year, MVP of the 2006 NFL season, half of all fans LADANIAN Thomas in San Diego have signed a petition against him to be on the cover of Madden because they did not want to hurt him. Coincidence? I think not! If you had to go investigate from the year that NFL athletes were first put on the cover of Madden, you'll see that everyone selected athletes were injured in that particular year. There are many examples fully referenced to give evidence Madden's curse and we could go on and on but I'll give you a reason to Brett Favre may be the first to break it!

Activities off-season Brett Favre was the result of a man who did not look himself before his retirement. His retirement, in my opinion, was a decision emotional instead of physical. For this reason, Brett Favre retired too early, and after realizing he had made a mistake decided he wanted to come back! One problem, the Green Bay Packers had changed! And thus, Brett Favre is now a New York Jet! If you look at the cover of Madden '09, it's Brett Favre on the cover of a uniform Packer Green Bay. As I said before, it seems that the curse Madden effects on the athlete and the team if he is on the same team throughout the year. Because Brett is now on the Jets in New York, we're in new territory here! Does that mean that Green Bays' new quarterback AAron Rogers will have a bad year? Does this mean that the Packers Green Bay are designed to have a bad year? We do not know! We know that Brett Favre is on the cover of a Green Bay uniform and because of this, I think the curse is finally broken! This could mean that the New York Jets could have a bad year! I do not know whats going to happen! But this will an interesting year. Just hope that next year your favorite NFL athlete is not on the cover of Madden!
