Angelo Crowell's career as a Bill is over

Postby Bender on Thu Sep 04, 2008 4:25 pm

Angelo Crowell annouced to the team today that he will undergo surgery
that would've kept him out for 2-4 weeks. Bills brass got * and
placed him on IR. His career as a Buffalo Bill is over.

I didn't even know anything was wrong with Crowell. That is very odd to
put him on IR,on a 2-4 week comeback.Their has to be something here
not known to us.They could have put Gibran Hamdan on the practice
squad and went with two QBs.That would leave a spot on the roster for
Crowell.

I guess Keith Ellison will be getting the start. He is the reason we
had to go out and get Kawika Mitchell this offseason.I wouldn't mind
seeing them put DiGiorgio in there at MLB and move Poz outside. He has
the speed to play on the outside.I wouldn't be surpised to see some
other moves in the LBing core.

Crowell's been fighting knee problems since last year. I'd be willing
to bet the Bills recommended to him that he have surgery over the
off-season, but he wanted to delay it as long as possible, possibly
angling for a big new extension. Then they figured that whatever it
was, he could play through it this year and have surgery at the end, a
la Shawne Merriman. Then when he pulled the "I'm having surgery now"
move 3 days before the season (brilliant), they were * and couldn't
rely on him being back in 2-4 weeks, and had to make a move.

As for putting Hamdan on the PS, I don't know if he's eligibile anymore.
Also with Trent banged-up and having a history of injuries, and JP's
thumb bothering him, they had to keep 3 QB's.

I'm thinking JD in the middle with Poz outside. Hopefully adding
Stroud, Spencer Johnson, and Mitchell takes a lot of the pressure away
from those guys, unlike last year. But regardless of who's right and
wrong, it sucks that Crowell is done playing for the Bills, both this
year and forever.

I am not sure if this was the case, but I know some players get bonuses
for being on the roster at different points.I wonder if he held out on
the surgery to get some extra money.Either way whatever happed. He
clearly * off the Bills front office.

I'm not sure if he is eligibile either. But could have just as easily
cut him.I don't think anyone would pick him up.You could add another
QB to the PS as soon as you cut Hamdan. In the case that someone did
pick him up.The Bills didn't want Crowell on the roster. So it dosen't
matter at this point.I think Hamdan deserved a roster spot anyways. He
played decent in the preseason. All you
can ask for from a 3rd string QB.

I think Ellison is a good back up.A guy you can get by with for a few
games.
He just isn't a guy that you can go with for a entire season.Like you
said the new tackles keeping the lineman off the LBers should help.I
know Jauron's defense worked best is Chicago when he had the two huge
DTs.This is the
3rd year after Poz knee injury. His JR year he dominated before the
knee
injury. He would have been a top 10 pick that year.He should be back to
100%.
I'm expecting a break out big year from him.I would like to see him at
MLB running all over the field making plays, but he may have to move
outside to get our 3 best LBs on the field.
