And the roster is...

Postby MBD on Sat Aug 30, 2008 6:20 pm

QB (3) - Edwards, Losman, Hamdan

RB (4) - Lynch, Jackson, Barnes, Omon

WR (6) - Evans, Reed, Parrish, Hardy, Jenkins, S. Johnson

TE (3) - Royal, Schouman, Fine

OL (9) - Walker, Dockery, Fowler, Butler, Chambers, Bell, Preston, Whittle,
Murphy

DL (9) - Schobel, Kelsay, Stroud, K. Williams, Denney, McCargo, S. Johnson,
Ellis, Bryan

LB (6) - Crowell, Posluszny, Mitchell, DiGiorgio, Ellison, Corto

CB (5) - McGee, Greer, McKelvin, Youboty, Corner

S (5) - Whitner, Simpson, Scott, Wilson, Wendling

K (1) - Lindell

P (1) - Moorman

LS (1) - Neill

Mildly surprised to see Will James cut, but it was the right move. Also
interesting to see that there is only 1 healthy TE (Royal), as Schuman is
injured but close to returning, and Fine is out "indefinitely" with a thumb
injury. Also notice that Jason Peters isn't on the list (he's on the
"reserve/did not report" list) while Matt Murphy, who seemed to have
season-ending shoulder surgery, is. I expect that when Peters returns,
which is reportedly this Monday (Labor Day, ha ha), Murphy will be put on
IR.

Here's my take: Some good parts here, and on paper, this team is an
improvement over last year. I like the look of the D, but the offense
scares me again. Too many question marks, from Edwards to the line,
the WR's , and the TE's. If they keep mistakes/penalties to a
minimum, ride the krappe out of Lynch, then we'll be competitive
thanks to the D. Keeping injuries to a minimum, of course.

The Bills *have* to start Hardy from game 1. Without him in the
starting lineup, the offense is little better than last year. Hardy
creates matchup problems, even if he's not the target of a lot of
passes.

As for Peters, I have a feeling he'll report tomorrow, as has been
rumored. He has zero leverage now and will only hurt his career. The
Bills have him under contract for 3 more years and have already fined
him $430K. If he sit-out 10 games, when he returns, he'll have to pay
the fine, pay back part of his signing bonus (they'll go after it), miss
the $1M bonus for starting half the games at LT, and there's no way the
Bills give him that big contract in 2009. And if he wants to replay it
all, the Bills can play this game for the next 3 years, with Peters
making nothing and wasting 3 years in which he could have made $30M
($4.5M this season plus a huge contract next year with probably $25M in
money over the first two years, in guaranteed money, salary, and
additional bonuses).

I never doubted that he'd return...I'm just wondering what effect
missing all of preseason will have on his game. We'll see.

The defense should be really good. The only thing that could hold them
back,is a lack of pressure on the QB.Aaron Schobel needs to have a big
year.If we get the pressure. This will be a top 10 defense easy.

The offense added no one in FA.During the offseason.I wouldn't mind
seeing Hardy start very soon.He cant be much worse then Reed.Roscoe
Parrish needs to get in the slot and do some things this year.Royal
has looked decent is preseason.Hopefully he can keep it up.Atleast be
a outlit guy.The Oline is biggg. They have played well with out
Peters. With Peters in the line up.We should have one of the best lines
in the NFL.No weaponds and a good Oline.
Maybe they can protect till the other team has a CB fall down.I look
for it to be more of a ball control offense early in the year. Then try
to open it up more when Hardy and Edwards get their feet wet.

We should beat Seattle.
